Let's be too much
Stopping being small
Why do you play small? I am not sure how many times I have had people challenge me to up my game, to step out of my comfort zone, to stop playing small. And time and time again, I’ve tried and failed, made small gains but not far enough. What gets in the way?
Fear.
Fear of being seen. Fear of being unlikeable. Fear of letting people down or upsetting someone.
Fear of being too much.
So, I step back, shrink a little, shut up.
I talk myself out of doing the truly brave thing. I procrastinate, I overwork, I underplay.
And quite frankly I am sick of living like this. I am sick of sitting on the sidelines and waiting for permission. I am sick of being a good girl and making sure everyone else is comfortable, happy and getting what they want while I abandon myself. I am sick of my reasons and excuses fed by the fear rather than the thrill of giving something a go by listening to my heart.
What would you do if you weren’t scared?
This is a brilliant question to ask yourself. But asking questions isn’t enough. We need to follow up with some form of action.
This is why I have started the ballet class… it is literally and figuratively stretching me! I nearly pulled out of it, but I am so grateful I didn’t. It was a physical and mental challenge, it had me meeting new people, and it was something different to what I have done in the past.
What would it look like if we decided to be too much? If we didn’t edit ourselves before we shared information or took a stand? If we went out there and did what makes us come alive without apology? If we wore and did what made us feel alive instead of trying to simply fit in?
I think it’s time.
I think it’s past time.
Let’s be too much- do what brings us alive and make our mark on the world.
You have got something to say, you have talents and strengths to share, you have so much to offer.
How will you be too much today?
